Schwielowsee is situated in the German state of Brandenburg on the shores of the Schwielowsee lake. It is a municipality in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district that has only been founded since December 31, 2002. The Schwielowsee lake is actually a part of the Havel river system, which itself is a tributary of the Elbe river. The entire area of Schwielowsee is quite small, being only 58 km squared with a population of a little under 10,000 people.

Another novel outing that a lot of people do while in the area is to visit the summer home of Albert Einstein. He was a keen sailor on the Schwielowsee lake and a lot of people go to see his house as a mark of respect to this great man.
